When the Mortals had retreated, their numbers sadly depleted, the Immortals had returned to their camp as well, a job very well done. Shada was tired, cold, and in sore need of a shower, but other than that, she was happy. Fighting always made her that way. And, as always, there was always a small part of her disgusted by her deeds. That little part that had wished she had stayed a Pacifist and left it at that. But she had to admit, joining the Revenant Army had been a good idea. They were incognito here, and Azazel had not found them, all was well.
"Mother!" The mental word was hurried, excited and very close. Shada looked up to see her daughter, looking very much like a young woman standing before her, her rich blue eyes sparkling with happiness. Overjoyed, she approached the girl and embraced her, ruffling her shoulder length hair.
"Pandora, I'm so happy to see you!"
"Oh, I missed you!" The girl was smiling, and looked like she was going to cry, but because of where they were, was holding it back fairly easily.
"As did I. How was Montana?"
"Cold. I didn't like it much, it was as if I couldn't stay warm."
"Unfortunately you got that from me. I can't stay warm either." Shada told her, wiping her cheek. "We fought hard today, I think surrender is inevitable."
"Aye... I felt it too. I just wish they would hurry up with it."
"I do too... I want to feed, and the sooner we get out of here, the better I will feel, since you won't let me out until them." Shada grinned.
"Your aunt agrees with you."
"Does she? Aunt Liir, you wish this was over as well?" Shada conceded her voice to Liir.
"You have no idea, little One. Your mother won't let me feed on my own. Something about getting us killed or something. I forget..." Pandora hid a grin behind her hand.
"As well she should! I mean, one can't be too careful."
"And that's why." Shada said, taking control again. Liir sulked inside her, but Shada ignored the tantrum, which was beginning to make her head hurt. "I was going to bathe, I will see you later, Pandora."
"Aye." Pandora nodded and turned back to what she had been doing when her mother walked up to her.
Once clean, which had taken a lot more scrubbing than Shada had originally wanted to do, she went to find her daughter again. However, she was stopped by a man, one of the other Corporals in camp.
"Aye, Sir. What can I do for you?"
"I told you to call me Rayflo." He replied. "And I wanted to ask you something." She hid a sigh of impatience.
"Ask away then, Rayflo." She said, eying him. Oh, she had heard the rumors about this one, and she was not going to get involved and be a statistic.
"You see that girl over there?" She turned her head to see that he was pointing toward Pandora and she instantly grit her teeth.
"Aye..what about her?"
"You seem to know her, would you mind introducing her to me?" Fighting the urge to roll her eyes, she nodded. She didn't tell him that that was her daughter, and she didn't hit him like she wanted to, for many reasons, most of them she had heard from other women around camp. She turned on her heel and walked toward Pandora, warning her some before they approached. At least the girl would be warned.
"Pandora, this is Corporal Rayflo Amoro. Rayflo, this is Private First Class Pandora Noratannia De Embrell." She smiled at Pandora.
"De Embrell... wait, she's your sister, isn't she?" He asked. She raised her eyebrows and nodded.
"Aye... she is my sister." She grit her teeth again, watching this unfold.
"Oh... the reason I came over here. The higher ups want you and your squad to take first watch tonight." He said, smiling at Pandora. Shada almost cried in relief. He wasn't going to say something lecherous! And then he spoke again, which she had almost missed. But she had heard enough to know that Pandora was way too young to hear that from a man, and whacked the back of his head. The girl's face was pink and she looked like she was going to disappear.
"Rayflo! What did you say to her?" Shada snapped.
"Calm down! Geez, I didn't mean to offend her, I just asked her if she minded if I watched her. There was no need for you to slap me!"
"She's my YOUNGER sister! She hasn't even frozen into her Immortal state yet! Stop trying to get into her pants and get out of here!" Her eyes were black and her fangs were out. Pandora didn't need to put up with him. He raised his hands in defeat and walked away.
"Mom... he's a bad man."
"I know, sweetie. I know. And one of these days he will get his, let me tell you. Some woman is going to tear him a new one. I just hope I'm there to see it." She laughed and shook her head. "And don't worry about him. If he comes back, I will kill him, I shit you not."
"Oh mom, you're silly."
"No. The silly part was he thought he was going to get away with saying that." They both laughed then. "Besides, he has pretty much exhausted the women here, except for the ones with fur. Doesn't seem to be partial to them." She eyed the man's back as he retreated, shaking her head.
"Even you?"
"Oh. Hell. No. You have got to be kidding. You know as well as I do I have no use for a man right now, or ever. Your father pretty much did that for me."
"Aye... but you said..."
"I know, and I mis-spoke. Besides, he and I are barely comrades, if anything. I don't hold a very high opinion of him, nor he of me. And that is the way I like it." She smirked and narrowed her eyes at him when he turned to look at her. He gave her a wicked grin in return, which made her face pinken. She turned away from him quickly and shifted her weight uncomfortably to her other hip. "Some people..."
As much as she hated the man, she had to respect him as a warrior. He was a very good leader, and not much else. He troops mostly goofed around and what not, causing a ruckus that at one point woke her from a nap. She came barreling from her tent, eyes scarlet with the intent to murder. He had just grinned like a fool while she was scolding him, which inflamed her more. Gods, but the man was an insufferable bastard!
She usually respected the others, but with him... all she wanted to do was strangle him. It was like he was two different people. He was a fierce warrior she could trust with her life on the battlefield and then on the sidelines, he was... a giant ass! And what was worse was the fact that she couldn't read him. She could never tell if he was serious or if he was just toying with her, and that irritated her. When he was promoted, she shuddered at the thought. He was a Sargent now... he was her superior. And that, in itself was a scary ass thought. What would he do if she blew up at him? She tried to stay away, but every time she did something, he was there, watching her, teasing her, bringing her closer to blowing her top.
In the end, Liir was the one with the good idea. If he wouldn't be serious around her, she could play his games as well. She would twist him in knots like he was doing to her, and she would piss him off. She would do anything she could to get back at him. And then, he would see. He would see that he was no match for her and her Succubus soul... of which he didn't know about, which gave her the advantage.
And she got to test Liir's idea almost daily. Anytime he would come at her with a lewd remark, Liir would give her one twice as lewd to counter him. And for a while this continued, their back and forth joking and everything. And each time the stakes would be worse and worse until she wanted to scrub herself with a toothbrush. And still he persisted. She raised her eyebrow at him, giving him a look that would have made Liir proud. She was daring him to say something to match what she had said, the innuendo clear in her words. Then again, if he had said something, she would have had to ante up and do what she had said, and she was not planning on doing so. Perhaps she would let Liir take over for that.. NO! She was not going to be a statistic, some notch on his belt. Fuck that, she was better than that! Instead of his answer, however, they were called to battle again, and she thanked her lucky stars that they had. She really would not have gone down on him, like she had said she would. Not now, and not ever.
