A year passed, and the day of Shada's nineteenth birthday had arrived. Having been on the Vampiir's sleep schedule for the past two years, she knew she wouldn't get to do anything until the others woke up. She had wanted her first tattoo, which she had acquired earlier in the day, and had hurt like Hell. The man who had done it for her had been worried about her passing out, since she had complained and cried the whole time, but in the end she had been very glad she had done it. But now it was coming dusk and she was bored. Feeling a bit lonely, she left the church and wandered about Temmora. She went to her favorite place, the only spot she could truly be alone. There was a big willow tree out by the lake; it's branches hung down into the water and kind of veiled from from the outside world.
"Shada, tonight is your birthday. You have some special visitors..." Liir told her. She was getting used to Liir being inside her, but her message confused her a little bit.
"Visitors? What visitors? No one ever visits me, and I'm pretty sure none that know me know where I am!"
"Things were kept from you but they are to be revealed to you tonight... just as I told you they would. Just trust me." Actually Liir had said that around a year ago, but Shada didn't argue with her, there was no point. No sooner had she spoken, the smell of brimstone and the sounds of a million screams assaulted her senses. Two figures appeared outside of the veil the tree offered.
"Nightshade, come forth and meet your true family." A male voice commanded of her. It had been a gentle, yet firm voice that had commanded her without a pitch or octave change. It was enough to have her scrambling down the tree and over to the leafy veil that separated her from them.
A man stood there, with dark skin, black hair and green eyes that seemed to glow with amusement as he watched her. Beside him stood a stony faced woman, who looked exactly like her, down to the color of her eyes currently, but her hair was a dark blond instead of black.
"Who are you?" She asked, staring. She knew.... she knew... but she didn't know why. Tears streamed down her cheeks, from happiness, from confusion.. she wasn't sure. All she knew is this was her family.
"I am Lucifer. I'm your father." The man told her. "And this is your older sister, Lilith." The blond woman looked her over and nodded.
"Little sister..." She said, a thin smile stretching her lips.
"Why wasn't I told? Why was everything hidden from me?" Shada demanded, her hands on her hips.
"I demanded you not know so that you would live to grow into the woman you are supposed to be, while I trained your sister. The two of you are destined for great things!" He laughed, throwing his head back." Now, Lilith and you will meet again as your lives go on. But for now, grooming must continue. Good bye, dear daughter, and happy birthday." The woman came forward to hug her, offering a smile.
"Happy birthday, Little sister."
"Happy birthday to you as well, Lilith." Shada replied. Lilith and their father disappeared, leaving her alone...well, almost alone. She was smiling like a fool but she didn't care, she had family who actually cared about her. Plus, her father was a God. That made everything better.
On her way back, she began singing to herself. So far the day of her birth hadn't been that bad, but she wasn't home yet... she still had to deal with Lief and the Harpies.
When she got back, she was met at the door by Lief himself, who wore an almost Victorian outfit complete with cravat and pourpoints. She was absolutely stunned.
"Well, well, out partying on your own, Princess?" He looked her over and noticed the slippery patch on her neck.
"No, Lief. Just out taking a walk." She said, her smile wilting a bit. Even two years later, she still believed the man didn't like her, and in return, she didn't like him much either.
"Mm. Well, Miranda has something for you upstairs. Go and then meet us in the Sanctuary." She didn't argue, she just nodded and headed up to her room. As soon as she opened the door, she was grabbed by four women, including Miranda.
"Come on, you!" The four of them scrubbed, washed, dried, curled powdered, painted and laced her until she was completely dressed in a pale blue Victorian gown, soft, jewel-toned slippers and jewelry made of silver and sapphires. A matching tiara and earrings were brought to her next and placed upon her.
"Happy birthday, Shada!" Rani exclaimed, embracing her. "Leeta, hair! She needs pinned, love." Dragged back into the chair, Leeta began to pin her long black curls up.
"Now, let's go. You are wanted downstairs. Lief has a surprise for you." Shada stood and moved from the chair.
"Thank you, all of you. But was this really necessary? I feel like a china doll on display."
"It's what Lief wanted for you." Was the reply she got. Rani pulled her into a hug again and whispered into her ear. "Good luck." Confused, Shada pulled away and left the room, making her way down the stairs to the main floor. She didn't know what was going to happen, but she was determined to make her birthday a good one.
Lief whistled when he saw her and suddenly her attire made sense. He was dressed similarly, even the same color scheme. She eyed him a bit, weary and confused. She didn't know what to think. Just what had he planned? She supposed she was going to find out.
"You look magnificent." He said, taking her hands.
"Thank you, Lief." She smiled as he lightly kissed her cheek.
"You're welcome, Princess." He turned, still holding her hand, and led her into the sanctuary.
A candle lit dinner awaited her, with two settings. She was confused, since she was sure he couldn't... He smiled.
"Contrary to what most think, some of us are able to eat. Most of us don't because we don't feel the urge like Mortals do, but sometimes it's nice." He explained, as if answering her thought. She nodded and sat down in the chair he held out to her. Unused to his kindness, and due to the tightness in which the women had laced her into the dress, she sat rather awkwardly, but he seemed not to notice.
Dinner was fabulous, and she found that Lief was not just a pretty face, but he was a kind and gentle man, with a good sense of humor. It felt odd for him to show this much attention to her, even if it was her birthday.
"Shall we retire to my rooms for dessert?" He asked. She smiled a bit and nodded, eager to learn more about him. "All right." He stood and came around the side of the table to take her hand again. Together they left the sanctuary and went up the back stairs to Lief's private rooms.
"Please excuse the clutter. I've just acquired some rare treasures from other lands, and I haven't a chance to put them in their proper places." He apologized, opening his door. Inside the room there were many glass cases. She walked around, glass of wine in one hand, perusing his artifacts.
"These are beautiful, Lief." She said, complimenting him. He smiled at her and came to her side.
"Not as beautiful as you are, Shada." He said. His breath was on her neck, which made her shiver. He was so close which made her heart leap into her chest.
"I.. Lief..." She was confused again, eager and scared. Was he going to Turn her? Or make love to her? Either way, she was unskilled. She was no more than a virgin, the liasons with Miranda aside. She had never felt that she was pretty enough to catch a man's attention, until now. Lief seemed to want her, really want her and she had never felt more special.
"Princess, I want to taste you, to claim you as mine. Would you let me?" He asked her, sounding almost possessed. She turned, her skirts rustling as she did.
"I...I don't know. I mean, you don't even like me and..." His eyes were glassy and a hint of fang peeked over his lower lip.
"Shada, it wasn't that I don't like you. Hell, I think you are the most beautiful woman here. It's just... you are an enigma. I can't figure you out and that bothered me. I sense such... power inside you, and yet you are a Mortal woman. I don't understand." He held her gaze. And she wanted to tell him that she was not a Mortal woman.. at least not a full Mortal. Her father was a God. But she couldn't. "None are like you, Shada. You are one of a kind and I would be honored if you would allow me to Turn you. You are my Dulceta, my sweet one."
"Oh Lief!" She hugged him, feeling a strange warmth from his body. He returned her hug tightly, whispering sweet words into her ear, kissing her neck. She shivered and molded her body to his. "Taste me, if that is what you wish..."She gasped when he licked her flesh.
"Are you sure? There is no going back afterward." She nodded. "I will try to be gentle, Dulceta, but your scent is intoxicating... I've always loved the smell of roses." He nipped her neck enough to draw blood and groaned at the first taste. "Ah, Gods, Princess. I've never been this ready..." His fangs lengthened fully. He kissed her neck again and hid his bite within it.
Shada gasped, feeling his fangs in her throat. She could feel her life force draining, leaving her body cold.
Just before she died, he gave her his blood, crying out when he felt her own fangs grow in her mouth.
"Oh Gods, yes. YES! Princess..." He threw his head back and moaned. When he had determined she had had enough, he pushed her head away gently. She was delirious again, this time with her new blood lust and coming full death. In this moment of vulnerability, he picked her up, and lay her on the bed, divested her of her dress and underthings before falling upon her; his quest for her blood had made him randy and he was determined to have her. She was too sick to agree or disagree with this, and could barely speak. Everything was... heavy, for some reason.
"Lief... I am..." She lost her train of thought...
"Untouched? I know, I can smell it." He said, interrupting her. She stared at him... her bleary left eye turning a burning scarlet the other stayed the blue they had been all night. She didn't care that she had just realized he had tricked her, she didn't care that he had just killed her, and she was in the throes of Death. In that moment, she wanted nothing more than to have him....everyone and everything be damned.
"Take me." She hissed. He did nothing but smile smugly and do just that. The only thing she remembered thinking about is the regret for letting Lief win like this. The next time she was able to comprehend anything, she was lying in the ground and Lief was above her.
"Welcome to Vampirism, Shada. You are now a Baninae Vampiir."
"Baninae? Why is Miranda a Roya....?"
"She told you she was a.....No. She might have told you that to make you jealous, but she is no more a Roya than I am a Phantomae. I'm a Baninae, the others are Baninae and Miranda is a Baninae. Trust me, if anyone should be a Roya, it would have to be you." She didn't know whether to be flattered or insulted with that. "I have two things to tell you... the first is, I'm going to bury you in this hole and in a day or two, when your strength is back, you will climb from this hole and come back to the Church, in which I will teach you about the Baninae. And I want to know if you will be my girl. You don't have to answer now, in fact I would rather you wait and give me your answer when you arise. So for now, I will await your answer eagerly. See you in a couple of days." He began to shovel dirt back into the hole, burying her... well, she really wasn't alive, and she was too weak as it was.... so she would have to wait. And she would tell Lief what she thought of him. Closing her eyes, she peacefully drifted into what she would have called the Vampiir coma stage to await the return of her strength.
Two long days and nights past before she was able to crawl from her grave. He had placed roses on her body and buried her, so when she arose, she had thorns embedded in her flesh and petals, as well as leaves in her hair. Her body hurt for some reason, hurt a lot. As she walked into the door of the church, she was greeted by stared and whispers from the other women.
"Shada! Are you okay?" It was Miranda, who she brushed off and made her way to Lief's room. She didn't bother to knock, she just opened the door and found him reclined in bed, gold rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose.
"Good evening, Princess. I hope the soil was soft enough." He said, smiling a bit. She was breathing heavily, and as he watched, her eyes glassed over. "Right.. well, we can talk about it later. Come for blood, I assume?" She growled at him, stepping toward him. "All right, all right, calm down. I will give you what you want." He set his glasses aside and got off the bed. He approached her and brushed some of the dirt from her face. "Steady now. Try not to take to much. Don't want to drain me." He held out his neck to her, brushing aside his hair. Her fangs were chin length, which she wasted no time burying in his flesh to drink his blood. It was soo good, and she didn't to stop, but she had to. Reluctantly, she released him and stepped away, feeling tremendously better than before.
"I want to know... what a Baninae is exactly. I can't understand the translation." He smiled and her and nodded.
"I will tell you, but first, I want you to clean up. You are filthy from climbing out of the ground. Go, go and freshen up. The tale can wait until then." Frustrated, but not wanting to show him that, she turned and went to shower. It seemed she was covered in more dirt than she had expected. But in nothing flat, she was clean and dressed and standing in front of Lief again. He grinned at her and looked her over. He seemed to like the way her body had tighened and filled out the dress he forced all of his women to wear, though in different colors.
"Ah yes, you want to know about the Baninae. I suppose I should first tell you that Baninae are known for their beautiful faces and equally beautiful voices. Whether or not you could carry a tune before is irrelevant now. Your voice will be as sweet as a song bird's." He stopped in front of her again, his ogling of her body finished. "But that is not all our voices can do. We are also vicious killers. Our voices can be used in battles. We are iron-willed, but gentle by nature." She nodded, prompting him to continue. "And we have many abilities that others do not. Along with our voices, we have an ability called Tracing. It allows us to go anywhere we have been before, and to anyone. Now, if you have never been to a place, then you are not able to do so. It has never been done." He cleared his throat. "I think the other things we will save for another time, since they are more...personal in nature." He gave her a lewd smile. "And you will find out for yourself how powerful or weak those are, as well as your aura toward others." The innuendo was there, but she ignored it. "But with that brings me back to the question I asked you before. Will you do me the honor of being my girl?" Her eyes turned violet and glowed slightly.
"You can't be serious, Lief. Miranda is your girl." She stood her ground, her fists balled at her sides. "You can't ask me to betray my friend for you."
"Shada...it's not like that! Miranda and I have grown apart. Plus I suspect she favors women more than me." He said, laying his hands on her shoulders.
"You can't ask me to do this, Lief. I am not a whore." Her body was thrumming for some reason and she could tell something was wrong, Liir was begging her for control of their body, but she couldn't do it, she couldn't let her control snap. Her rage was boiling in her veins.
"But I need you. You are my livelihood, Shada. You make me feel young, and I need that these days." Her lips thinned into a tight line.
"How can you be lonely in a place full of beautiful women, Lief?" She was at her breaking point now, and he was doing nothing more than adding fuel to the fire. "I gave you my blood, you took my body. What more could I give you that you can't get from the others? Why am I so different?" Electricity flowed from somewhere deep inside her to her eyes, which completely turned violet, no white and no pupil. "You took it all from me!" The charge zapped him, throwing him back against the bed, to slam into the wall. He screamed like a wounded animal and she took this time to turn and run from the room.
"Shada, tonight is your birthday. You have some special visitors..." Liir told her. She was getting used to Liir being inside her, but her message confused her a little bit.
"Visitors? What visitors? No one ever visits me, and I'm pretty sure none that know me know where I am!"
