When she was far enough out to sea, she removed the ring that had bound her to Arnoz and chucked it into the sea. She didn't want him or anything that reminded her of him. None of it. She was going to make a new life for herself, since she had purged the rest of the bad things from it with her breakdown in Temmora. She wanted a fresh start and she was going to have it. She had heard some of the men talking about a portal that had taken people to another land, this one more... oh what was it they had said... technologically advanced than this world. She had blanched at that, since she had not realized that there were other worlds other than this... She shook her head and looked out over the sea, watching the seabirds and the waves. She wondered if she should go there, she wondered if she could make a home there, even if she looked like this. She had learned over the time she had been at home that she was able to cast illusions intricate enough to mask her body, and with a little bit of trying, she was able to mask the unsightly scars that had covered her body. She now had a full coat of white fur that covered her seamlessly from head to toe, and she had been happy about it, for the time being. She was not ready to go back to her other form yet, not when she was still raw from what she had learned in Temmora. For now, she was getting ready to disembark the ship and find the man she was looking for, that would take her to the portal, and into the next world.
She had found the man in his cabin, about ten miles away from the shores she had landed on. Still, with her timing, she was likely to be too late for this round of immigrants. And she was, which had pissed her off a little. The man had gruffly told her to come back later, but she had refused, not knowing where she would be before the time came and past. He had waved her off, going back to his bed, telling her to do what she liked, which usually meant that he wanted her to leave, but since she was past doing what others wanted of her, she stayed, sitting in the corner opposite the bed.
He slept like the dead, and while that usually at least got a giggle out of her, she was not amused even the slightest. She had become just a shadow of her former self, and all of it was because of Jasper. Her lips thinned as she thought about it. She hadn't killed Miranda, but she was sure that the woman had no idea how to raise people from the dead. Then again, she didn't know much about the woman, since she had lied about everything else. Shada let out a low, guttural growl as not to wake the goblin of a man on the bed. He snorted and rolled over, a trail of snot coming from his nose. She grimaced and looked away from him, fighting the wave of nausea that threatened to come up and snatch her ability to stop it. She clapped a paw over her mouth and grit her teeth. But, less than five seconds later, she was outside, retching into the bushes. She had not expected that to turn her stomach so much... but she wasn't going to go and feed when she was sure it was so close to being time to go. She would be okay when she crossed over, had to be. And if not, she would be able to do that when she got there, providing she could keep herself stable until then.
He awoke a few hours later, a bit surprised to see her sitting on the floor. Her eyes were closed but she was far from asleep, she was just sick of looking at him doing it. Gods, but he was so gross when he slept. She'd had to fight nausea several times. But, since he was awake now, she was fine, for now.
"Ya still here, lass? Ya must wanna get to the States worse than I thought. What, ya fleeing from someone, an Mate, perhaps?" Irritated that he had picked that up so quickly, she bared her teeth at him. "Mm, never mind." He said, shaking his head. "C'mon then. I'll take you to the Portal." She rose from the ground and stretched, her paws clipping the ceiling of the little house. He grumbled at her and waddled outside; she followed behind at a distance since he smelled so foul. She just wanted to go and be done with it, and he was not moving fast enough to suit her. Not even close.
Within twenty minutes, they were standing in front of what she assumed was the portal. All she could see was a faint sparkling before her, and that was it.
"This is it? This is the portal?"
"Yes, this is it. Have you never seen a portal before?" No, she really hadn't so she didn't know what to expect. She stepped timidly toward it, hoping that this actually was a portal and not a double cross. Shrugging, she stepped up and placed her paw through the glittering and instantly it disappeared. She jerked it back in surprise.
"Are you going or not, Miss? I have a long day ahead of me." The little man snapped, getting irritated.
"Fine, fine. Just give me a second." She took a deep breath and stepped through, into the next world, however bad or good it may have been.
It was different being in this world, though it looked no different than the world she had just left. She was in the forest, wandering and trying to see the world around her. She felt as new to this world as a newborn baby... or pup in this case. Either way, she was alone here in a strange world and didn't have a clue where to go.
She caught a whiff of some of the animals nearby, all that seemed familiar to her, which gave her comfort in such a place. She smiled, and realized that she was actually happy for the first time in a long time. She could actually make a new living for herself here, and there was no need to ever go back to the Castle. She began to sing to herself, out loud, using her Siren magick to lift her spirits.
"Torn asunder, my body, my soul is free.
No longer locked beneath another,
I can finally spread my wings and fly.
Things were bad, but getting better,
life has become my joy, my longing
something to--" Her song was cut short when she smelled blood. She blinked and sniffed the air again. No, that was definitely blood. Someone was injured. With brows furrowed, she moved toward the scent, unsure if she should help or not. She didn't know who the person was, or how they would react to her. But, in the end, her natural curiosity as well as her healer qualities took over and she went to find the person, keeping a diligent eye out for unfriendlies.
She was close now, the scent was threatening to overpower her senses. She pushed aside the branches of a particularly big bush and entered a small clearing.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" She heard nothing and then what sounded like a low growl and the shifting of steel on bark. "I am unarmed, I just wish to help." She said. She edged closer to a big tree, where she could see a body. She was in no way unarmed, but she carried no visible weapon, so she could pass it off. "Are you all right?"
"Come no closer." It was a male voice, one that had a dangerous undertone to it.
"I... I am sorry to come upon you like this..." She said, cursing the way her accent rolled under her words. "Is there anything I can do?" A glowing, violet eye appraised her from the other side of the tree. She blinked but stood still, allowing this person to see that she was no threat.
"I am... injured." He had an interesting accent as well, which made her feel a bit better to know he was a foreigner as well.
"Could I look at it? I have some healing abilities..." She stopped talking when she realized she was scenting wolf, but none she had ever encountered before. It was... nice. The violet eye was visible again for a moment.
"If you think you can help." He said, after a while with a slight sigh. She slowly walked toward him, her tail wagging slowly in a friendly gesture. She wasn't ready for what she saw on the other side of that tree. She doubted she ever would have been.
He was big, no, more than big, he was enormous. He was sitting at the base of a tree, but his torso climbed the side of the tree almost six feet. Her eyes were wide, but she was trying not to stare, and secretly wondered if everyone in this strange place were all as big as he.
He yelped and she realized she had stepped on his tail.
"Oh! Forgive me!" She cried, moving quickly from the offended appendage.
"...Rrr." He gave a slight growl. She was nervous, and shaking, praying that she did not hurt him further. She had not the strength to fight him even though he was injured. His size made him a threat to her, so she had to make sure she did this right the first time.
Blood was seeping from several wounds on his body, but the worst one was in his side, which looked like it had been gored by a wild animal. She had no idea what could have injured him like this.
"I can heal you." She said, confidently. "This might sting a little bit." She bit her lip and placed her white paw into his large wound. Instantly the white fur turned dark with blood. He hissed in his breath as she did so. "I...I'm sorry." She said, nervously. She looked back at the wound and let the magick flow through her.
"Hurry up." He growled at her.
"H-haiichii." She said, pulling her hand free. The larger wound was the first to seal, being that it was the one she was the most concerned with, though the others sealed as her magick soared through his blood stream. It dissolved into him with the last cut, becoming one with his blood. He would be fine.
She hurriedly stepped just out of his reach, making sure to keep her distance from him.
"....thanks..." He said, rising slowly from the ground. He braced himself on the tree as he did so. Her eyes were wide as she watched him stand to full height, which was around eight feet.
"You're welcome." She said, backing away from him. He looked at her briefly as if she should take that very instance to run. She wanted to, but she couldn't seem to move.
"Hell-o hunnie." Liir was awake with a sudden, stunning clarity in her mind. "That, my dear, is an interesting scent." Oh great, Liir had taken interest... she didn't know if she should be concerned or not. "Mmm. I'd like to meet HIM in a dark alley!" Shada bit her own tongue to silence the woman, who pouted then. She had almost missed what the man had been saying.
"Oh...forgive my rudeness... my name is Shada." She said, with a smile. She would have told him her full name, but it was long and not worth the trouble at that particular moment.
"..." He watched her again, as if she should run away from him, and she honestly contemplated just that, to spare herself anymore comments from Liir, who was driving her nuts. "What are you doing out here?" He asked her. She looked at him. Should she tell him the truth?
"I just got here. I was exploring." She said, looking around. It was then she noticed the fair amount of carcasses lying about. He had been... killing these wolf creatures and that was how he got injured. Made sense.
"You know, there are many terrible creatures found in these woods." He told her. Aye... like him, for instance. Her rational mind, not Liir, told her. "You should probably move on."
"Aye, I will." She said, nodding and turning. "It was nice to meet you..." She said, turning and running off into the darkness.
