Tracing had hurt for the first time, but when she could see again, she found that she was in a heavily wooded area. She had no idea where she was, and that, along with the gut-wrenching thirst she had, made everything worse. She clutched her stomach and groaned, going to her knees. She had to find something soon, or she feared she might succumb to the insanity of a monster.
She had gotten new clothes in the city she had come across after leaving Sunnyvale, but with her preternatural beauty, she didn't stay there long. The people there had gathered around her, gawking, staring and whispering to each other, wondering who she was. And, like always, she was uncomfortable being around so many people at one time. So she had fled, running from the city, her dress hiked up around her knees as she did so. They hadn't pursued her, which had been a good thing, but she was still cautious, making sure she was well out of sight before she Traced. And now that she had found herself in the middle of nowhere, she wished she had at least stayed long enough to feed.
She managed to make it a few feet before she had to stop again, as another pang sent her back to her knees. This was what dying felt like, it had to be. Nothing was worse than this feeling, not even the effects of the injections, and those had been really bad. She let out a moan just before she collapsed to the ground, her body completely drained of its energy.
The next thing she knew, she was being lifted from the ground. The weightless feeling of being carried filtered slowly into her consciousness and she woke up.
"Don't worry, Miss. You are safe now." It was a man's voice, and when she opened her eyes, a blond haired, blue eyed man was carrying her.
"Who... are you?" She asked, her throat was dry and scratchy from lack of feeding.
"My name is Vik." He replied, looking down at her. She was stunned, seeing that he was a strangely beautiful man, his face almost angelic in nature. "What were you doing out here, Miss...?"
"Shada. My name is Shada."
"Well, Shada, what were you doing out here? This is no place for a lady, especially at this time." She noticed it had grown dark.
"I...got lost. I didn't know where I was. Where am I?"
"Just outside of Fauuna." He replied. "You almost made it." He gave her a warm smile and kept walking toward town.
"Fauuna..." She murmured, laying her head back against his chest. She had misTraced. This town wasn't in Blade, she knew that from living their for so long, which meant she had somehow gotten to Mindavia by mistake, having never been there, and knowing no one who lived there. Her lower lip trembled, and she knew she was going to cry, but for no reason whatsoever. There was no reason for her to cry, none at all. But there she was, bloody tears running down her face and soaking the nice man's crisp white shirt.
"Shada, are you all right?" He seemed confused and surprised by the sight of blood on her face. He stopped walking and knelt, laying in in the grass to examine her. "You're crying...blood?"
"I'm sorry! I don't mean to do this, I don't know what's happening!" She blubbered, wiping her eyes. He studied her face for a long time and still had no idea why she was crying blood.
"What are you? I've never seen blood tears before." He asked, gently. She sobbed for a moment, trying to get herself to calm down, and realized why she was crying. She was in pain, and she needed blood quickly, or she was going to feed from Vik, and she didn't particularly want to do that.
"Baninae...you've heard the myths about them, haven't you? I'm the Siren and the Banshee of the Vampiric world." She managed to say between sobs.
"I know what it is, yes. Oh! You're telling me... I have never seen one before, I thought they were just a myth."
"No..We aren't a myth. I sit here before you, do I not?" She wiped her eyes and sucked in a huge breath. Bad idea, all she got was a big whiff of Vik's scent, and it was all it took for her fangs to extend and press full force against her lower lip.
"You do." He said, nodding. "Is there anything I can do to help you?" He asked. Mistake number one for him. Her eyes dilated; she was losing control of herself and she knew it.
"I need... blood. Now. Please... I haven't fed in so long..." She was whining now, and she couldn't help herself.
"Blood?" He was really confused now, as if he didn't understand what she was saying. She felt bad. She didn't want to ask him... she didn't want to ask him if she could have some of his lifeblood, the red tide that flowed just below his skin. But she was desperate, and desperation made the body weak.
"Could I..." She stopped herself from asking the question, feeling awful for doing it.
"You won't Turn me, will you? I don't think my blood would react very well to it." He said. Was he consenting to her feeding from him? Apparently he was, since he lifted her up and held her mouth to his throat. She licked his throat, tasting his skin. She moaned with the first contact, wanting what lay beneath.
"No... I won't Turn you... I would never, unless you asked it of me...Vik.." She whispered his name as if she were praying it, or praising him for allowing this. She licked his neck again, which made him shiver against her body. "I want a taste... will you let me?" She felt him swallow with her very soul, and could almost see the blood as it rushed through his veins.
"Drink from me." It was said simply, but it was enough. She shivered against him and kissed his neck. This would leave a hickey on his neck, she knew it would, but she didn't care. She wrapped her arms around his neck, tilted his head away from her and gave his skin a sucking kiss, hiding her bite within it. His body tensed beneath her hands, but she was past noticing.
First taste was like an earth-shattering orgasm to her, and it was incredible, like nothing she had ever had before. She moaned against his skin and began to knead her claws into his flesh gently, so she wouldn't puncture him. She wanted to drink him dry, but she couldn't. She had vowed not to Turn him, and if she had drained him, her conscience would get the better of her and she would have to Turn him then. Instead, she drank enough to make her feel phenomenally better and released him, sealing the wound with a lick.
"I...I... Vik.. thank you." She said, licking the remains of blood from her lips. He placed a hand over her bite and smiled at her.
"That isn't necessary, Shada. You would do the same if the situation was reversed." No, she probably wouldn't have, but she didn't tell him that. Instead, she reached into her pocket and produced a pouch of gold. He eyed it as if he was contemplating taking it, but he stayed her hand.
"Take this then. I want to repay you for saving my life."
"I cannot accept this from you. I did it to help you. I expect nothing in return." He replied. She stared at him, and allowed him to help her stand.
"Are you sure?"
"I am. But I would be glad to have you at my home for some tea, that is if you are able to imbibe any." He said, looking down into her green eyes.
"I would be happy to join you, Vik." She said, smiling a bit. "And I am able to eat and drink like anyone else, it gives me no nourishment, however."
"Ah, I see." He said, with a nod. He offered her his arm, which she took graciously. " Shall we be off then?"
"Aye, let's." She replied, smiling. He walked toward the town, with her beside him.
His home was little more than a fort in the heart of the forest, and she couldn't have been more grateful in that. She was still in no condition to meet anyone, Mortal or otherwise, so this was a welcome scenario.
Inside the fort, however, there was a woman sitting by what looked like to be a fire pit. Liir immediately started complaining about the woman's presence, and since Shada was in no mood to argue with her and make herself look like a fool yelling at herself, she ignored the Succubus. She didn't know the woman and she was not going to make judgments based on the sight of her. Not only that, the woman was pretty. Not beautiful, for that would give her far to much credit, but pretty,in sort of a homely way.
"Nora, we have a guest staying with us for a while."
"Oh, no, it's just for the night. I'm heading home to Blade in the morning." Shada said, smiling and nodding to the woman, who had stood and wiped her ashy hands on her skirts.
"Nice to meet you Miss. I am Nora, Vik's girlfriend." Shada took the woman's outstretched hand and smiled, albeit forced, but still a warm smile.
"My name is Nightshade, but please, call me Shada." She replied to Nora. "This is a lovely home." Not really, but she was not going to be rude to them, especially when she was Vampiir and they, clearly, were not.
"Miss Shada, this is my father, Ian. Father, this is Shada. Vik found her out in the woods, I'm assuming?"
"Yes." Vik said. It seemed to her that Vik was not at all pleased by the tone in Nora's voice, and frankly, neither was Shada. She never was one to ignore blatant rudeness by anyone, and this was no exception. Her eyes darkened a couple of shades, but to her credit, stayed green.
"I thank you so much for allowing me to stay in your home. I hope I am not inconveniencing you."
"Not at all. I was the one who suggested you stay." Vik said, offering a smile to her. Shada was not accustomed to being eyeballed like this, and she was not enjoying it. However, Liir was, just as she was enjoying the looks Nora was giving her as well. Either way, this was only one night and nothing more. There was no way she was going to linger any longer than that, not if this woman was going to cause problems.
Sure, Vik was handsome, in sort of a brute sort of way. His scars and blind eye were something she was interesting to learn about, but that was for curiosity's sake only, not for any sort of pleasure. Never that. Shada was never one to get in the way of two people who loved each other, even if one of them was an irritating little shrew.
Overall dinner was fine. There was an underlying current of hostility between Nora and Vik for some reason, and their auras were dark as Hell, but Shada kept her nose out of it and pretended not to notice, or care. She did, though. She hated that she was the cause of the unease between the couple, but it was not her place to say anything, even if she really wanted to tell the little prude where to put her attitude.
After dinner, she shared a bit of her travels, keeping out the parts that would unnerve them. Ian, Nora's father shared some of his tales, which kept her attention for a while. But, with her superior senses, she could still tell that there were problems, and she was not at all pleased to realize that the longer she stayed in Vik's home, the worse it was becoming.
Finally it was time for bed, and she could not be happier. She didn't need sleep, so she feigned it until she could hear the deep, even breathing of the others in the fort. She got up, folded the bedroll and left a brief note of thanks to the household, and a small bag of gold for them. Then she snuck out of the establishment and disappeared into the night, Tracing home to Blade.
